i cant get my y530 laptop to recognize a usb drive and/or external hard drive. the system cant install the appropriate drivers. i ran a 3rd party software and it told me the following drivers were missing:
rim mass storage device - Port_#0001.Hub_#0005 and
USB to IDE bridge - Port_#0001.Hub_#0008
can someone please let me know what these are and where can i get them?

These are fairly native drivers and are included in every distributive.
Please specify your model of laptop, OS usign and tell if it is factory preload or fresh installation?
Do any of USB devices work at all? Do all USB ports act the same?

laptop model is Y530
os is windows vista 64 bit
it was preloaded when i bought it, none of the usb ports work. sometimes the system recognizes that devices are attached but does not know what they are because of missing drivers; on other occaisions it doesnt even recognize that something is attached.

Looks mostly like a hardware problem related with low currency in USB through south bridge. Try using NOVO recovery jsut to be sure that it's not some software glitch and then call to return laptop back because it needs motherbord replacement.
