Last week the Y550 was delivered. Specs - T6600, Nvidia 240M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD.
Poked around a bit on this forum & didn't see any situation that seems to describe what I'm getting from a new Y550. When I go to Computer Management --> Disk Management & look at the partitions the C:\ drive shows up as 420.56 GB NTFS partition under Disk 0 which has a total of 465.76 GB. The D:\ partition is 30.25. There is also a 14.5 GB partition without at drive letter & a similar 200 MB partition.
My question is... Under properties for the C:\ drive the capacity is shown as 130.85 GB with 78.31 GB left as free space. Why the discrepancy between Disk Management & Disk Properties? I don't understand why the Disk Management shows 420.56 GB (which is what I'd expect from the 500GB drive) & the Properties shows only 130.85 GB.
Any explanations or links to more information on what may cause or explain the discrepancy is greatly appreciated.

Unallocated space is listed as 3MB. The difference between what is showing in disk management & disk properties is 317.56 GB. Its not unallocated as its showing under disk management, just not under properties.
The machine is as it was when delivered, no modifications.
Anyone experience something similar...?

assigned driver letter for all volumes?
> disk management
right-click a partition, logical drive, or volume, and then click assign drive letter and paths. ( if there's no letter )
to assign a drive letter, click add, click the drive letter you want to use, and then click ok.
aren't you using xp, are you?
- cause there used to be an issue with sata disks with xp -
