Y570 randomly shuts down without warning.

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I bought my Y570 in November 2011 off of ebay.  It's a refurbished product.  Anyway, it's been running great the whole time until a couple days ago when it started to randomly shut down (instant black screen, no warning.)  A lot of what I've found in searches, suggest overheating, but I really don't think that's the issue, since air coming from the vents is cool, and when it shuts down, it is not working hard (just web browsing and email.)

I know it's not a virus, as I've done multiple full system scans in Norton, and even used their advanced deep scan, with nothing found.  Also, my computer is fully updated, as far as I know.

Sometimes it shuts down with many many hours in between, even all day and sometimes with less than 30 minutes.

The problem started 3 days ago.  It was on all day yesterday with no problems, and stayed on today until ~11pm.

So, any help would be greatly appreciated.   I really hope I don't have to send it somewhere to get it fixed.  Sure, it's under warranty, but my laptop is a vital need since I'm in college and need it for class.

Thanks in advance.  Please let me know what other information you need.

Re: Y570 randomly shuts down without warning.

Hi coastaman22

Does this occurs on battery, AC or / and both?

I guess you really need to contact Technical Support to have a look at it. Maybe you could kindly request a loaner set to continue your studies. (Not sure whether it's applicable or chargeable). I could understand your need for the laptop as I am also a student that need laptop for school work.

Have a nice day! :smileytongue::smileyhappy::smileyvery-happy:

Re: Y570 randomly shuts down without warning.

Start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

It could be a bad driver. Check device manager and try to detect  any errors.

Bios update may be necessary:

For Windows 7 64 bit:

Re: Y570 randomly shuts down without warning.

@Peter, I'm pretty sure it's only happened with A/C  but, I don't have it off of A/C as often as I should, so it could be coincidental.

Also, a loner is definitely not something that would help.  I am a graphic designer, so I need Photoshop, Illustrator, etc...  It's not just word processing.

@fiesta  I've tried your solutions.  Hopefully they've worked, but with how unpredictable and sporadic this problem is, I won't be able to say it's solved.  Maybe if a week goes by and it doesn't happen, then I'll be able to.

Thanks for the help, guys!  Here's hoping!

So far, it hasn't happened again since before I first posted. Still too soon to tell for sure though.

Re: Y570 randomly shuts down without warning.

Had the same problem on my 3000 N100.  Disconnecting the AC, removing the battery, and holding down the power button for 15 secs did the trick.  The problem has not recurred for a month now.

Re: Y570 randomly shuts down without warning.

My Lenovo Ideapad Y570 shuts off completely after 10 minutes.

I tried holding down the power button for 15 sec and tried restarting but this did not work.

I removed everything AC power, battery and memory and then replacing them, then it booted fine.

However after 10 minues again it shuts off.

The heat sink is not very hot nor is the air from the fan, so I don't think its over heating.

I swaped the memory but no difference.

Everything works fine for about 10 minutes then off it goes.

Whether I have the battery in or power only or both.

If I try to turn it back on without removing everything, it powers on with all the panel lights on, but blank screen and no boot.

It will only come on after I remove AC power, battery and memory.

I left it in the BIOS to see if it will still shut off but it froze after 10 minutes without shuting off.

Please help!
