Just like me: My new (broken) Lenovo system should replace an old Dell Inspiron system :-)
I decided to return the Y580 to the shop and they will send it for repair to Lenovo. No idea how many days, weeks ... it will take until I get it back. I will post any results here, might help others.
Thank you for the help and steps to try I got in this forum!

I ended up contacting support as well, and getting a case number to have it repaired. I'm a bit apprehensive based on a) other repair horror stories here, b)had to call twice to get the Inventory Control Sheet emailed and c) still not clear on the process. Each technician I spoke to sounded like they were from the Philippines, and the connections were bad. Am I to wait for some box to be sent to me to returns eh laptop in? Or should I package it and ship it myself?

Yes, as stated in my post three above this one, I contacted support and received a case number. Hopefully, not sending the email was the only error made, and the box will be received shortly. I'll give them a call back if I have not received the box by Wednesday...

Just one comment about trying to contact Lenovo in Germany:
I got the local free-of-charge telephone number from my shop (Cyberport). The automatic telephone system spent some time to tell all the available options to me (Lenovo has many products ...). I ended up getting the answer that for the IdeaPad product line I have to call a different number. Ok - but this number was not free-of-charge any more. Dialing this number, I got the answer, that the number has changed and I should call a different number.
At this point I stopped the process getting in touch with Lenovo and returned the Y580 to the local shop. They told me that this means some more time to wait as they have to send the notebook to the central distribution center of Cyberport and they will send to Lenovo. Return way will be the same.
I will post the time it took ...

I was just wondering, was the number you contacted the same as below?
B, C, E, G, H, K, N, Q, V, Y Series Products
(0,14 €/Min aus dem deutschen Festnetz. Max 0,42€ /Min aus dem Mobilfunk)
|9AM - 6PM

the number I got from Cyberport (the shop where I purchased the Y580) was: 0800-500 46 18 (no-charge number in Germany).
For consumer products like Ideapad systems you are asked to call: 0800-184 46 77 (again no-charge).
This number is invalid and you are asked to call: 01805-366 869 (the number in your mail).
So at least Lenovo should update the telephone answer system.
