Y580 - Restore Windows 7

I have an Ideapad Y580 with a 32 gb SSD and a 1TB HDD. I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 but it failed so I had to do a clean install. I'm trying to go back to Windows 7 since Windows 10 is somewhat glitchy on my computer (I already updated all the drivers). Since it was a clean install, I don't have the "Go Back to Windows 7" option in Windows Recovery. I made a system image just prior to installing Windows 10. I also have a Windows 7 Repair Disc but when I try to boot with it I get a message that says the version is not compatible with the version of Windows I'm trying to repair. Resetting the PC only gives Windows 10 as the target operating system. I tried calling Lenovo support but gave up after 10 minutes on hold and my warranty is expired anyway. Is there any way for me to get back to Windows 7? Or is there a convenient way to get installation media from Lenovo to go back to Windows 7 with the OEM partitions? I was hoping to avoid purchasing the $130 Lenovo "Complex Services" (I'm not even sure if it would solve my problem). Any help is much appreciated Thanks.

Re: Y580 - Restore Windows 7

Hi farrell1986 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

On the process of clean installation , did you format the entire drive ?

You can try to turn off the PC and use the Novo button (item 6 page 2 next to the power button) to turn it on .

Novo Menu would offer options to system recovery. Check if system recovery > One Key Recovery from initial back up would still work (assuming that the hidden partition is still unchanged) , try using users backup via your previously created image.

If the harddrive is deleted even using the ordered recovery media would not restore the same original partition set for One Key Recovery (chapter3).

If you are not able to get a similar Windows 7 version as you originally had to launch another clean install , calling in technical support to order the media would assure you of the exact version OEM license for your system along with the drivers . Get hold of the software department 1-855-271-3879 8:00 - 23:00 Eastern, daily. Likewise check on your local service center like Best Buy for pricing and comparison.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards
