Y700-15ISK - If I reset and reinstall the operating system, is the warrenty still going?

Hi guys! I have a problem with my Lenovo ideapad Y700-15ISK (maybe due to a virus or an unfinished updating).

Laptop is is new, it has just few weeks, so it is still under warranty; it has Windows 10 as opereting system.

I would reset it and reinstall windows 10, but I'm afraid to stultify the warranty doing that.

Does anyone know something about it? the laptop will be under warranty even I reset and reinstall Windows 10?

Thanks for the help

Giulia

Re: If I reset and reinstall the operating system, is the warrenty still going?

Hi Giulia1591 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Resetting the operating system will not invalidate your warranty.

In doing such , your Lenovo machine actually have a feature that make it easier for the user to perform it using the One Key Recovery feature that would delete and reimage your system the way it was from out of the box.

Just turn off the laptop and press the Novo button (item1,page 72) to turn back on.

Novo menu , system recovery would offer One Key Recovery from initial backup that would automatically reset the laptop. Other recovery options for windows 10 are available too.

Do take note on how you reset windows 10.

If you are to perform a clean installation (reinstalling via a downloaded image), this would delete the OKR feature and treated as a retail version specially if you install a different version other than what came with the laptop.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Re: If I reset and reinstall the operating system, is the warrenty still going?

Hi! thanks for your reply, but it doesn't work.
If I press the Novo bottom, I have the same problem: laptop switchs on, but the operating system doens't work; it shows the message "Lenovo" (the one when you turn on the laptop), and after that it turn off.

Do you have any suggestion?

Re: If I reset and reinstall the operating system, is the warrenty still going?

Hi Giulia1591 ,

When it turns off , would there be any status light on the LED (page29) or it would go off alltogether?

If so , best you call in technical support if you have active warranty as the battery is internal .

If you have the tools and skill , you can follow the guide on removing the battery with the adapter unplugged and power drain by pressing the power button for 20 seconds. Place back the battery without the harddrive and try turning it on.

Doing this would allow us to isolate if it's really a booting issue or a post (power on self test) issue.

Update us how it goes for you.

Regards

Re: If I reset and reinstall the operating system, is the warrenty still going?

I already tryed to remove the battery and do that, but it still doesn't work. That's why I thought to try to reset and reinstall the operating system.
But I can't reset and reinstall: there is an error message that says that it can't find the unit to install Windows...

Re: If I reset and reinstall the operating system, is the warrenty still going?

Hi Giulia1591

Greetings,

Now that we were able to check the BIOS not seeing any harddrive as reason for not booting yo Windows.

Try reseating it in /out checking for a clear contact area / loose connection.

I do hope you were able to back up before this happened.

Nonetheless , I'd rather have a harddrive issue than a motherboard problem,

If you have other machine or external harddrive enclosures to test the harddrive on different pc, so we can decide.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

But if I do that I could invalidate the warranty, right?

Re: If I reset and reinstall the operating system, is the warrenty still going?

Hi Giulia1591 ,

Greetings.

Removing the harddrive will not void your warranty for as long as there won't be any damage accidentally done in the process and as usually is done during upgrading harddrive and rams by most fellow users .

Similar discussion here .

Just the same , please give technical support a call so that they can set the service for you as needed.

You may also verify with them about the warranty situation and plan for backup.

Update us how things go.
