Z50 blank screen, keyboard unresponsive, beeps when plugging power in and out.

Yesterday evening, my Z50 had been working normally. I put it on stanby over night, but it was running this morning (with the lid closed). I have observed this behavior on multiple occasions, so I wasn't worried. It seems that Windows sometimes wakes laptops in standby to update overnight.

 

In any case, opening the lid, no image appeared. I closed the lid, computer did not go into standby. So I shut it down and rebooted it by prolongued pressure on the power button. Screen remained blank. Did this a few times, no change. External Monitor is not getting HDMI signal at any stage. Keyboard is unresponsive (caps-lock and num-lock LEDS do not toggle). In fact the only way I can even tell it's running is because the power led is lit and the fan is working. Oh, and it gives a single sharp beep when I plug the power in or out (both ways produce the same beep). That's the only reaction I could get from it.

 

Things I tried, all without any effect whatsoever:

Running only on PSU without battery. 

Running on different PSU without battery.

Running on battery without PSU.

Unplugging PSU, removing battery, holding power button pressed for a minute, putting battery back in, booting.

Booting using the NOVO button.

 

Can't see any way for the usual household remedies like system restore or BIOS reset, as for all I can tell the fan is the only thing even running in there.

Currently just leaving it running to drain the battery, but I don't really see what that could accomplish. Yesterday the thing worked fine, today I'm a few hours away from ripping out the disk and comitting it to the garbage bin. Unless somebody here might have a suggestion that miraculously makes it work again. I could really do without spending the money on a new laptop right now, but I have examns in a week and a half...

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.


As the unit is unresponsive, and if should the battery drain method should fail, I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers
