Z570 intermittent charging

I have a six month old Z570 that has developed an intermittent charging problem. It became noticeable as the screen began to flicker -- this turned out to be the two different brightnesses for battery and for AC power. Also, the battery icon flickers between charging and not charging. When not charging it appears to think that it is not plugged in,

I've tried the remove battery, press power button, restore battery, boot, plug AC adapter in, but the effect is just the same.

I'm going to leave it plugged in overnight with the charger plugged in and the system powered off -- this will see if I can get a good charge on the battery. I notice that the "charging" light on the edge of the laptop (by the trackpad) stays on for most of the time but does flicker off occasionally. [I have no idea whether this is normal!]

Any ideas?

Re: Z570 intermittent charging

I left the charger connected overnight with the laptop powered off, and it got to 99% charge (I expect it really got to 100%, but had gone done ot 99% by the time it had finished booting.)

I have left the charger plugged in all evening with the laptop running (light browsing) and the battery now shows 47% available (plugged in, charging). Earlier this evening it was not charging.

I'm intending to leave it connected to the charger overnight again to let it charge up again.

Re: Z570 intermittent charging

The laptop charges up when it is powered off, and gradually runs down when it is powered on (with the charging flickering on and off).

Right now it is 93% available (plugged in, charging)

I looked in my event view logs and found the following:

Information 2013-01-25 08:56:23 HPLaserJetService 0 None
Information 2013-01-25 08:56:23 HPLaserJetService 0 None

Information 2013-01-25 08:56:07 HPLaserJetService 0 None

Each of these had the message "PowerEvent handled successfully by the service."

You can see the rate at which the charging flickers on and off.
