On a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580 Model 2151 Manufactured 5/6/2012
The computer will not boot. It defaults to the automatic Windows Repair menu.
When I first ran Windows Repair, it said that I have a corrupted mfewfpk.sys file, which is associated with McAfee Antivirus software.
Windows startup repair: “cannot repair this computer automatically”.
I restored the system to the previous restore point and the one before that with no change.
In the command prompt, if sfc/scannow is chosen it says “There is a system repair pending that requires reboot to complete. If I reboot the computer, I get the same message. I have done this multiple times. It's stuck in a loop.
When I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO file, Microsoft says to contact Lenovo. Even if I am able to make a bootable Windows 7 USB drive, would I be able to fix the corrupted mfewfpk.sys file?
Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.
