Z580 - How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Good to see some interesting discussion in this forum. I have Lenovo Z580 Laptop. I did not add any hardware or alter HDD configuration after factory install.

Lenovo's Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore " is very sensitive and I am sure you have seen many users trying to resize the original partitions getting into problems in Lenovo forums.

How do we protect the partition (OEM hidden) required for "One Key Recovery/Restore " operation during our clean install?

Thanks for sharing/helping.

Re: How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Hi MDRI,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with partition structure in your Lenovo Z580 laptop.

Have you created any recovery media? And also have you made any changes in the partition like (D drive, E drive).

As if there are any other partition made then the one key recovery(OKR) may not work.

Also please share the screen shot of the disc management to validate the issue.

Best regards,

Ashwin. S

Re: How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Ashwin,

Thanks for chiming in. I am not sure, whether your reviwed my other related/depended threads for (MDRI).

Here is one.

How does suspicious Unallocated logical partition shows up suddently?

I have not created a recovery media, but created a win 7 repair disk. I did not make any changes in the partition like (D drive, E drive).

I did not find a way to upload a screen shot. As my laptop is not bootable condition, I am not able to get a screenshot of disk management. I did some DISKPART using repair disk.

You can review my another thread in another forum, that enabled me to post photos of partition wizard,

Here is the link

Win 7: Black screen on boot up, before login screen?

I hope this help.

Thanks for helping.

Re: How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Dear Ashwin,

Thanks for chiming in.

I did not create any recovery media, but created a repair disk. I did not make any changes in the partition like (D drive, E drive). There are depended/related threads posted in this forum. my ID MDRI.

I did not alter disk configuation after purchase. It is still on factory configuration.

My Laptop is not in bootable condition, so I am not able to produce  the screen shot of the disc management .

Here is the DISKPART of my laptop.

DISKPART> list volume

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
  ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------
  Volume 0 F DVD-ROM B No Media
Volume 1 C NTFS Partition 200 MB Healthy
  Volume 2 D Windows7_OS NTFS Partition 653 GB Healthy
Volume 3 E LENOVO NTFS Partition 25 GB Healthy
Volume 4 G FAT Removable 979 MB Healthy
Volume 5 LENOVO_PART NTFS Partition 19 GB Healthy Hidden

I did get the disk piece using partition wizard. I am attaching the image.PartitionWizard1.jpg

Why does it show a 201.87MB unallocated partition?

How does it show up suddenly that causing booting issue? (I have another posting on this issue)

Thanks for helping.

I did SFC /scannow using win7 repair disc, because I have booting issue.

This command returns

Code:
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart
windows and run sfc again. I ran couple of times. I am getting the same
message."

DISKPART is not showing unallocated partition.

Does this unallocated partition part of factory configuration?

Thanks for helping.

Re: How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Hi MDRI,

Thanks for sharing the information, as you have not created any other partition hence you can preserve the partition.

Please create a recovery disc, below is the link to create the recovery.

Note: please take a data backup before creating the recovery media.

Best regards,

Re: How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Ashwin,

I am not sure, whether you reviewed my other related/depended theread of this forum. I am able to follow your suggestion, if I have bootable Z580.

I mentioned that my Z580 is not booting and brings up Black screen. I have access to Z580 only via Repair Disc command prompt.

I appreciate your url. I reviewed your url. It talked about creating recovery disk from existing backup image.

As my Z580 is not bootable, where will Lenovo OneKey find existing backup image?

How do I make recovery disk in this situation?

I have three logins such as Admin, local user1 & loacl user 2. There are installed software/tools amoung this logins.

Does this recover disk creation cover all items (Admin, local user1 & loacl user 2, intalled software/tools etc)?

Do you have steps to make recovery disk on command line using repair disk?

You did not answer my questions about showing up of 'unallocated' partition.

What did you see partitaion Wizard screen shot & DISKPART output? Is it sync?

Thanks for helping.

Re: How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Hi MDRI,

Thank you for your patience.

As the system is not booting and also recovery is not possible hence i suggest you to visit the nearest authorised service centre as you have not performed the recovery media hence suggest you to purchase the recovery media from the service centre. Also take data backup before performing the recovery.

Regarding the unallocated partition, this occurs when there is change in operating system, means if the system is shipped with preloaded and if you have changed or installed other image then the unallocated partition appears.

Sometimes it also shows when there is partition done in the hard drive.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.

Best regards,

Re: How to preserve Partition Structure with "One Key Recovery/Restore "?

Dear Ashwin,

Thanks for looking into my issue. I appreciate your insight.

I understand. We got the OEM installed Windows 7, but even though we did not make any config changes, your OneKey recovery is not working.

Microsoft is taking care of their retail customers by providing Windows 7 as free download for valid product KEY.

I have the OEM product KEY, why not Lennovo provide an option to download ISO with KEY instead of RDVD image purchase. We did not use your support so far. We have an issue, we like to take minimal help from your team.

Will you able to provide RDVD Image as courtesy for your loyal customer?

Thanks for helping.
