I can confirm that the laptop will boot into the OS if you power on the device using the Lenovo restore button or by normal power and Fn+F12 and choosing the Windows Boot Manager.
This isn't a great solution but it will at least let you use the machine and both drives - at least until the next restart.
I am still going to try the BIOS update later.

Hi, I just bought the latest version of this laptop, and I'm interested in doing this as well. Another user on the forums is saying that replacing the original 1TB HDD that came with the laptop with another fixed this problem for him. Can anyone confirm this?

I have exactly the same problem with my z710.
Does anyone have any information (from lenovo) about new version of BIOS?
Today I updated BIOS using the official 7fcn95ww.exe BIOS updater.
In fact this brings only the BIOS Version update to 7FCN95WW, but the EC version is still 7FEC26WW at my laptop.
At this moment I have three drives:
SSD: Intel 520 (with Win 8.1)
HDD: Samsung HM320JI (from previous laptop with Win7)
SSHD: Seagate 1TB+8GBNAND (empty)
But what is the point?
When I used SSD+HDD (Samsung) - laptop booted normally.
But when I used SDD+SSHD (Seagate) - laptop reboots at the lenovo start logo.
Using the second configuration, the only way to start the OS is use Fn+F12 and then choosing the "Windows Boot Manager (INTEL SSDSD2CW120A3)".

I can confirm replacing the original 1TB HDD with another harddrive fixes the reboot issue.
I think when the laptop detects the original harddrive it tries to boot using turboboot. I tried formatting the harddrive, uninstalling the drivers, formatting with different filesystem, etc, but the only working solution i found was replacing the drive altogether.

I am interesting in using a caddy for 2nd harddrive, because I'm working with virtual maschines. I've got the z710 with the 1TB plus 8GB hybride drive.
Is the problem solved with this configuration and adding a 2nd drive in a caddy?
I want to add a 1TB or 2TB harddrive.
The keyboard failture needed more than a half year for changing a keytable!!!
Have a nice day
