connecting directly to internet

How do I connect my Y530 to the internet without using wireless?  [taking laptop to another house just with cable]

You use an ethernet cable. Connect one end to the laptop and the other end to the router [either wireless or wired router].

As in cable or DSL modem? If a router is integrated with the cable/DSL modem, than it would be possible to connect with the ethernet cable.

Need to find out more on differences.   The desktop is connected to the wall cable through a box.

I don't know if it as a router or a modem.  It is not wireless.

First, let me ask you......does your friend have broadband internet? Such as cable internet or DSL?
