This guy says that it is supported but only at 30fps
... which might be a cable bandwidth issue, but at least it seems to work. If you tried it let me know. I don't want to spend money on this until I know it works too.

So you are using it at 30hz in 4k? The more I read about it the more I see that 30hz is slow even for regular work. People complain of noticeable mouse movement lags. Do you have that too? I wonder if that depends on the monitor as well or just that it being driven at 30hz?

Yes, my laptop is only able to display 30hz on my 4k samsung TV.
The Samsung TV is capable of 60hz 4:4:4.
Therefore my Lenovo y50-70 laptop is the bottle neck, in particular the HDMI port.

Long time since anyone posted in this topic but I'll give it a shot
What I actually want is to connect my Y50-70 to Samsung 4K HDR TV via HDMI and watch 4K HDR movies on it. Ok, we know already that only 30 fps is supported, but what about HDR?
If supported, then I guess I'll need a good video player on my PC that supports 4K HDR, maybe Media Player Classic would do the trick!
