earphone jack not working on y510

I have the y510 for almost a year. Recently I had a problem with the sound system (the speakers could not be adjusted when playing CDs and DVDs. I installed a new sound driver, as per instructions on this forum) and it was fixed. However, now I notice that the earphone jack is not working: when I plug the earphones into the green jack, the sound still comes out of the speakers and nothing can be heard in the earphones.

 

What can I do to troubleshoot or fix this problem (my earphones are good, they work in my mp3 player)
