installing a 2TB, 7mm hard drive in my Lenovo Ideapad Z510 (2014 model)

hello everyone:

i had my lenovo ideapad since 2014 and it served me well and still does, but i need more storage capacity, so i thought of buying a 2tb hard drive to replace my original 1tb. is it possible to do so?

the 2tb have the same form factor as the original one. but when i looked up the hardware spec for the Z510 it says the supported capacities are:

will there be any problems or compatibility issues?

Hi Am_K_R,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

There is no confirmed 2TB upgrade case I got at the moment and if the manufacturer documentation did suggest 1TB supported then perhaps you should consider not doing any purchase at the moment. We cannot say it it is not possible but rather to follow OEM recommendation afterall, there are alternatives.

As they would say, better not to put all the eggs in one tray. You may change your HDD to a faster SATA SSD and just use the original HDD as secondary while placed on a caddy similar to this post.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi Am_K_R,

Greetings.

I would be a good action plan.

I personally have my external multi enclosure handy both for backup and added tool specially when I am salvaging harddrives from broken machines. It is something modifiable and flexible in times of need.

Update us how it all goes as I am sure fellow members would also be interested too.

Regards
