lenovo Z570 Battery 0% plugged in, not charging

hello,

It was working fine before i didn't use my laptop 3 days , then when i power it on after 3 days it showing " 0% available (plugged in, not charging) " .   And when i remove the AC plug, laptop turns off . (no hibernating, no shutdown, just off)

i have tried -

Method A:

  1. Remove the AC and Battery from the laptop
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30 to 40 seconds
  3. Replace the battery and AC
  4. Boot the laptop up and check if the same message is still displaying
  5. If same error still persist, try to uninstall Lenovo Energy Management, reboot then install the Energy Management software again.

Method B:

1.Open Lenovo Energy Management

2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.

3.Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.

4.That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

Method C:

1.Open Lenovo Energy Management

2.Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.

3.Under Battery Health, choose "Optimize For Battery Runtime" instead of "Optimize for Battery Lifespan".

Note: The latter option will extend the lifespan of battery by limiting the charging capacity to be between 0-80%.

as mentioned in another thread in this forum but none of them worked.  The Battery Gauge Reset didn't start.

i am using win7 , and this battery is 4 year old .

please help me out of this problem.

Re: lenovo Z570 Battery 0% plugged in, not charging

Hi samanta,

Greetings.

Would this be the same laptop and battery that was reported on this post with low battery warning back in 2016? On similar post-2015 with a red cross sign in the battery (X).

Aside from the steps that you have tried, and findings that you can use with previously suggested tool here.

You can have your battery placed in a similar model to check and likewise using a similar known good battery on your laptop to compare.

Otherwise as indicated in the hardware manual, try measuring the battery using a voltmeter as described here on page 22 "Checking the battery pack" after connected with the charger for 2-3 hours. This would also reflect following battery operational charging direction on same manual page 21.

The battery is a consumable part, above steps would help you answer if you need to replace your battery. Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: lenovo Z570 Battery 0% plugged in, not charging

Hi samanta,

Greetings.

You would need to replace your battery as the wear level now at 98% with full charge capacity only at 1020 mWh from its original 38880 value.

yes ,, i also surprised after seeing that. Can you please tell me the factors that increase wear.

And can you please check other values( like cpu temp etc ) too and suggest me if they are normal or need some attention ?

Re: lenovo Z570 Battery 0% plugged in, not charging

Hi samanta,

The internal temperature of the devices on your laptop is within normal limits.

Having more than 3 years for a Li-battery would be worth the serviceable years after all most battery manufacturer would only cover 1-year warranty common to most consumable part.

There are several factors aside from heat that can increase wear.

Below are references articles on how to extend battery life.

6 Easy Ways to Extend Your Laptop’s Battery Life

How can I increase battery life?

Hope this has answered your query.

Re: lenovo Z570 Battery 0% plugged in, not charging

Hello,

The first link doesn't say anything  but the known measures , second link quite informative.

How can I set Custom charge thresholds to start charging at 40% capacity and stop at 50% in my Z570 ?

I also searched some sites and get to know shutting down laptop with 100 % charged increases wear. is that correct ?

Also leaving the laptop at very low battery level  for a long time will damage the battery.

So if I have to leave the laptop inactive for say 7 days how much amount of charge should I leave on the battery as the charge gonna be drain itself automatically over a period of time?

And lastly how to  choose the right battery for my Z570 from any online shopping site?

Thanks

Re: lenovo Z570 Battery 0% plugged in, not charging

Hi samanta

Greetings.

Using Power management tools and similar software would allow management of battery but batteries nowadays have also protective chips that prevent overcharging even if Windows would say 100%.

Mechanically, the battery would not charge not unless that it measures 95% (reference page 22).

"Battery charging does not start until the Power Meter shows that less than 95% of the total power remains; under this condition the battery pack can charge to 100% of its capacity. This protects the battery pack from being overcharged or from having a shortened life."

About battery the basic thing to remember is to keep it within 20-95% at most times is the best practice.

Windows alone would prompt you aside from the mechanical features of the device.

When choosing the battery, order it using the OEM part number from Lenovo authorized stores.

It would be seen on the battery sticker as well as in parts lookup page.
