lenovo ideapad z510 battery problem

2015-09-10, 20:05 PM

dear sir,

my name is nikhil in my laptop z510 ideapad i am facing battery problem it is not showing correct battery % and also not show batterey low warning message and it is stable at one position 99% please sir help me out from this problem .

many of them his having this same problem please give some battery firmware update so to resolve this problem.it is not a hardware problem because it started from two days before previously it is working fine but now it is not working

I purchased the z510 last  july and while the battery life wasn't great on it now it has stopped working altogether. I have tried every conceivable fix for it from the forums here and none has worked. The problem that I am having is that the battery is stuck at 99% while charging and when it is off charge it will stay on for half an hour and the shut off hard without warning, it has caused me to lose progress in work. The battery gauge reset is no longer working either as it was on for hours and just kept showing 99%. I would appreciate a response back. This seems to be a problem with this make of laptop as far as Ican see.

I also have Z510 Laptop (Purchased May,2014)

I have also started getting similar problem. It is overcharging everytime & will drop power suddenly from around 50-60%, abruptly shutting down my Laptop. I am facing this issue since last week.

Report from Windows Energy Manager:

Battery:Battery Information

ManufacturerLenovo IdeaPad
Serial NumberBAT20101001
ChemistryLi-i
Long Term1
Sealed0
Design Capacity43200
Last Full Charge48000

Few weeks back, the full charge capacity was around 33000 showing wear level around 20%, which is quite high in just 1 year of moderate usage. Now it has started overcharging.

Charging Behavior:

Stuck at 99% for about an hour and when it reaches 100%, it is overcharged at 48000. Also, I feel batttery is getting charged very quickly.

Gauge Reset Behavior:

Goes on for very long time, probably around 6-7 hours. Again, battery is overcharged.

Battery Behavior:

When full charged, it works normally until it it reaches around 50%, then suddenly power drops and Laptop powers off with some strange sound. (similar to bursting of baloon)

Hope this information will help you identify the Problem. I think Original Poster might be having similar Issue.

I have not visited service center yet. As of now, I am using Laptop in Conservation mode when plugged in to avoid over charge.

I will try that BIOS thing and see if it helps me.
We need to do this 1 min battery charge & Discharge when laptop is abruptly shutdown due to low battery ri8 ?

For bios you have to press f2 key while your PC is starting and then bios will open after that charge your battery for 10 min and then discharge it for 10 min repeat it for 3 times and the press f 10 to save then open your system normally reinstall energy manager and your microsoft acpi battery driver in device manager then restart your PC.

Re: lenovo ideapad z510 battery problem

2016-01-15, 15:49 PM

In response to customer reports of unexpected issues with battery performance on Z500 and Z510 laptops, Lenovo is making a battery firmware update available via download from the Lenovo Forums.

This battery firmware is intended to resolve the following unexpected charging symptoms when a Z500 or Z510 laptop is powered on:

  • Battery is dead
  • Battery is not detected
  • Battery is detected and charged to 100% but when AC power is removed, the laptop immediately powers off
  • When the battery is fully charged and AC power is removed, battery level falls dramatically within 10 minutes

Please note a step-by-step procedure for upgrading the firmware is included in the .zip file, found in the "ReadMe" folder.

The battery firmware update can be downloaded here: https://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/sm/z500_z510_battery_firmware_update.zip
