lenovo ideapad z580 model type 2151. laptop powers on, screen lights up but is blank/

heya i dont know if anyone has had this problem or whether anyone is able to help but i have a lenovo ideapad z580 model type 2151 core i5 3210m laptop that powers on, fan spins, led lights come on and screen lights up but nothing is displayed, no lenovo logo, no access to bios, nothing. if i use the nova key the blue menu pops up in the middle of the screen but if any of the options are selected the menu disappears and screen stays blank.

i have tried connecting to an external monitor and get nothing, i have reseated ram, swapped ram slots, reseated hard drive. tried it without a hard drive, taken out the cmos battery, taken out the battery and held down the power button for 60 seconds, tried it on just the ac adaptor, unplugged all peripherals i.e dvd drive, wifi card ect.

if i press ctrl alt delete computer restarts but still the blank screen, ive seen many posts and forums that describe a display that black as in doesnt turn on but mine is on, i can see the light switch on when i press the power button.

any help anyone could give me would be grately appreciated.

thank you

Hello Thomascassidy69,

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try to see if you can follow these steps.
Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine

1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. If you have a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key.
2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this)
3. Select “restore from the initial backup” and then “Next”.
4. Click “start” and accept the warning messages.
Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

Also try, a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

If these steps do not work I would recommend, that you contact your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: lenovo ideapad z580 model type 2151. laptop powers on, screen lights up but is blank/

Thankyou for taking the time to look at my posts unfortunately I have tried all these options that's you have suggested. Hard reseting by removing the battery holding down power button and then powering on the laptop with the ac adaptor. When I press the nova key it bring ups the blue menu and if I select system recovery the menu disappears and I'm left with a blank screen. The screen works as I can see it power on when I turn the laptop on and obviously I can see the nova button menu. Ive tried ringing lenovo support idea line but all they could suggest was replace the motherboard again. Thank you again for your response, I really do appreciate it. But there must be something I can do, being a motherboard issue does not seem likely in this case. When I remove the ram completely from the machine and power it on the screen doesn't turn on when I out the RAM back in anf turn the laptop on the screen turns on so whatever the issue is the motherboard and RAM are passing the initial POST test.

Thankyou again. Any more ideas you might have would be greatly appreciated.
