Re: nVIDIA GeForce Drivers v301.42 - WHQL

It's always been a standard, in doing business, to cut out the "middle man". I've always preached to stick with the approved Lenovo drivers. But, if you want to update the drivers of your Nvidia card, I would suggest you go directly to the source, and cut out the middle man.

Within the control panel, open up your Nvidia control.

Under the Nvida help panel, open up the update setting.

You will find 2 tabs, Updates, and Preferences, as shown below.

Under the Update tab, you can "Check For Updates". If there is a new driver, it will show that, then show a click box that takes you to the Nvidia download page.

Under the Preferences tab, you can automatically check for updated drivers daily.

This is a much safer way to deliver updates to your laptop, and you have total control over the process. You don't need some anonymous poster, who may direct you to their site, for IDKW. Smiley Surprised

And be sure to do a full backup so that you have something to revert to. I can't stress how picky an Ideapad can be.

Re: nVIDIA GeForce Drivers v301.42 - WHQL

the upgrade works like a charm! and there is nothing to backup. nVIDIA drivers always have a clean install option that totally uninstalls the previous version so you can install the driver from start without any conflicts!

Go figure!!

Re: nVIDIA GeForce Drivers v301.42 - WHQL

Yes, impressions:

- Sytem & NT Kernel CPU usage was constant 20- 30%.

- After trying to access the Nvidia Control panel, blue screen surpise.

This happened, because i was upgrading my old driver, not making a clean intalation. My advice is, if you are experiencing such problems, do not upgrade/ update. I advice a clean istalation with prefrence/ settings deleting.

Yes, a clean install is the best way to get rid of any glitches.

Also, if you have switchable graphics, with the on/off switch on the front, I always turn the switch "off" before doing the driver update. I don't really know if it makes a difference, but it doesn't hurt. Smiley Wink

Re: nVIDIA GeForce Drivers v301.42 - WHQL

With the new drivers, when I run simple games such as Solitaire or Hearts they crash with an unknown error and mind you I did a clean install from a freshly formatted Windows 7 Professional x64

this exact issue happened to me in the Beta.

They would only run if I disable my nVIDIA GPU and run them from the HD Graphics integrated chipset so Im back to 296.10 Smiley Sad

Re: nVIDIA GeForce Drivers v301.42 - WHQL

Clean install done.

No more BSOD, but the Nt Kernel & System CPU usage is still there.

I'm installed the previous driver. No issues so far.
