My NVIDIA control panel indicates my system is SLI capable. When I try to pair my two graphics cards in SLI mode, my laptop crashes and restarts itself. Why is that?

Can you please post a screenshot of your NVIDIA control panel?
Also, please check in Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Device Manager >> Display Adapter
What devices are displayed there?

What I can suggest is to do the process from the beginning. I created a video for Y510p but I think should work for Y500 as well (if you also have Ultrabay). Here is the link -
Before following the instructions in the video, please do these steps -
1) Shutdown the laptop.
2) Remove the second graphics card.
3) Start the laptop
4) Go to Control Panel >> Programs & Features and Uninstall NVIDIA drivers.
5) Restart and let the video drivers install.
6) Now, shutdown and follow the steps in the VIDEO.
Let me know if you were able to do this and if it gets fixed.
