I recently purchased an external hardrive that has an esata and usb port. I cant get my laptop to reconginse the external harddrive with the esata port but it works with the usb port. I have installed window 7 64bit home prem. and all the drivers, including both of the storage managment drivers. When i plug it in with the intel storage matrix software running "port 5" i.e. the external sata port dissapears and the computer starts to load something but never does and the port returns blank, and i get a little error pop-up in the bottom right saying something about "port 0" i.e. the hardrive with windows on it, its a multiplyer port or something like that.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? I dont think it is the esata port on the external hardrive, im going to check that tomorrow on my main computer.
this is the external hardrive btw http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822324017

have you tried your esata hdd with another computer?
the cable may be corrupted.
there's also available bios update for y450 ( 64 bit windows 7 ) update your bios and try again.
also updating chipset for intel may help.
and it's important to know the error that you're talking about on the right bottom side.
just plug esata and usb cable and try again. maybe it's just power feeding issue.

The error window i get says "A storage device was connected. If this device is in a port multiplier then only port 0 of the port multiplier will be active"......... Im sure the esata cable works, and i just reinstalled all the drivers just to make sure i have the lastest ones. But I still get that error message. Also its an desktop external hardrive so it has its on power plug and when i plug in both usb and esata it doesnt work.
Any ideas how to fix it?
