y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

Hi all,

I read in a thread that it was very easy to replace your wireless card, and presto - yes it is.  But unfortunately, after replacing with an Intel Ultimate Wireless card, I now receive a "Not suport wireless LAN" boot message and have to hit F1.  The card works fine, however.

Two questions

- Anyone know of any other cards that are supported other than the crappy Intel Wifi 1000 card?

- Anyone know how to disable the "Hit F1 to continue" message at boot on this laptop?

Both may not be possible, but I thought I'd try..

Thanks!

Phil

Re: y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

Im curiuos too. Im about to order the intel 6300 and a seagate momentus xt for y460, but Im unsure if the wifi card will work. The wifi link 1000 is crap and needs replacement asap. I read on a forum that someone replaced the card with a ultimate and tsaid it worked fine, I cant remember the forum however. Glad I read this though, Ill try the 6200 instead.

Re: y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

I just ordered a 6200 as well as a replacement; I will have it on Friday and post my results then.

Unfortunately it looks like it uses 2 antennas, not 3, from the picture.  There is a third antenna in the y460p that is unused.

Yea, that's what I thought. I was going to take advantage of the third antenna. Hopefully the 6200 will work.

Re: y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

- intel wifi link 5100 may work. ( not sure )

- you need bios edit to disable that error or you can use any of wireless adapters that are in whitelist.

Re: y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

I guess this is too new to know exactly which models are on the whitelist.

BIOS editing seems interesting, but I wouldn't have a clue how to start.  Smiley Sad

Re: y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

first of all, you need to have enough knowledge. secondly, editing bios will void your warranty.

check your user manual for whitelist devices.

Middleton might help you with your problem. He has enough knowlegde to wipe out restrictions from your BIOS.

But installation of such BIOS will void your warranty, yeah.

To defend Lenovo, i must say, many leading companies are using whitelists to reduce (as they think) amout of problems.

Re: y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

I tried the 6200 as well today and no luck.  Since all models only ship with the WiFi 1000 card, I'm afraid a BIOS mod may be the only option.

I've also read abot modifying the card (rather than the BIOS)..thanks for all of your help.  I'll try sending a message to Middleton.

Re: y460p - supported replacement wireless cards

That's to bad, I had hopes for the 6200 atleast. Why wire the laptop with three antennas and then whietlist cards that could utilize it like the 6300?
