y510 - pc won't turn on - battery charger is flashing blue light

2010-08-16, 21:45 PM

Got the hinges replace on the y510.  Now I can't turn on the computer.  I plug in the charger and the light on the charger flashes blue and nothing happens when I press the power button.  What could be the problem?  What do I have to do to solve this one?

Have you tried unplugging the power, removing the battery, pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds?

Yes.  I have tried unplugging it, and holding the power button down for 30 seconds.  I've tried to turn it on with just the battery in, just the charger in, and the charger in at the same time with the battery.  Still no success.  I have reseated the cables and and hardware, still no success.

Wait, so the blue LED is flashing on the power supply?

Unless it is a secret code, it could be implying one of two things:

1) Capacitors broken in power brick; solution: Replace power brick

2) There is a short on the laptop somewhere that is faulting the power brick.

If it's not plugged into the laptop, does it still flash? If it does, I'd replace the power brick.

Y530 Power Button Doesn't Work - Will Only Power On Using OneKey

2010-08-17, 5:52 AM

So I've had my Lenovo laptop for a while and I -want- to like it, but something always happens to it.  The biggest problem right now?  The power button doesn't work.  I can only start my laptop by pushing the One-Key Recovery key just above the power button.  This is obviously annoying because I want to start my computer, not Recover it.  (And yes, I've already recovered it anyways to factory settings)

I've tried all the "Remove battery, unplug AC and hold power key for 30 seconds or press the power key 11 times and then hold it down and shake a chicken over it while playing Ave Maria backwards" and nothing works.

HOW CAN I GET MY POWER BUTTON WORKING AGAIN?  Aaaaah!  HELP!

I had the same problem my aunt had cover hinges worked on at a shop. In my case I found the shielded mesh cable from the power board and shielded cable from the LCD pinched under the same screw. This caused a break in the internal wire creating a short to the mesh shield. Repairing the short in the wire fixed it.  I hope this helps.
