y570 Nvidia GT 555M Code 43

2013-08-21, 15:10 PM

Attempting to open the Nvidia Control Panel gets me this message: "NVIDIA Display settings not available.  You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU."  I looked at the Device Manager and under display adapters, it says under NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M that, "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I went to NVIDIA and after having them auto-detect my GPU, downloaded and installed a new driver.  I went to the Lenovo support section and downloaded and clean installed the "NVIDIA Display Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y570" that's from Nov 2011.  I downloaded and flashed a BIOS update (also from Nov 2011) and then clean installed the up to date NVIDIA driver (July 2013) and still no luck.  Still Code 43.

The optimus switch still does not light up.

Please Help.

It's sad to say that Code 43 is most likely hardware failure thus your GT 555M is dead. You can try installing a different OS like Windows 8 or Vista and see if the 555M becomes active, but this is very unlikely though. You can try updating to 320.49 here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win8-win7-64bit-320.49-whql-driver.html

Read this article too and see if it helps: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725873(v=ws.10).aspx

If you're under extended warranty, Lenovo will replace the motherboard for you.

Is there anyway to renew my warranty. It just ran out on 7/20/2013

Online it said there is no more support for the lenovo y570 and if i call them i might be billed for it.

Is there anyway to get a warranty?

I don't know much about warranties but have you tried restoring to factory defaults using  One Key Recovery button that is next to the power button? It might be some driver conflict with other drivers since Code 43 doesn't need to be a hardware failure (it could also be faulty drivers), but hardware failures only fall to the Code 43 category. Make sure to back up everything before you do a factory reset.

Here's a thread by which a user was able to resolve the code 43 problem by RMAing the laptop because it was determined to be a hardware failure: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/383662-33-nvidia-630m-code

Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "return merchandise authorization (RMA) or return goods authorization (RGA) is a part of the process of returning a product in order to receive a refund, replacement, or repair during the product's warranty period."

Good luck on your factor reset. Don't forget to back up all your personal files.
