z500 Backlit keyboard stopped working

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Z500 and the backlight on they keyboard used to function when i pressed fn+space; however this function has stopped working.

Not sure if this is due to the latest Windows 8.1 updated.

Would appreciate any help on this matter.

If it helps to diagnose the issue, the mini light for caps lock and num lock are still functioning but the backlight on the keyboard has stopped working.

Thanks

Ketan

Re: z500 Backlit keyboard stopped working

Hi Ketan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I’m sorry to hear that the Keyboard backlight feature is not enabling after upgrading to Windows 8.1, I suggest you to install the LPM (Lenovo Power Management) in the computer this should resolve the issue. Below is the link to download the exact LPM for the computer:

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Re: z500 Backlit keyboard stopped working

Its ok now, i have managed to fix the backlight.

I upgraded the RAM in my laptop and in order to do this i needed to remove the keyboard.

As a result i connected the powersupply cable the wrong way round. Have corrected this and it is now working.

Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks

Ketan

Hi Ketan,

I’m glad to hear that the keyboard backlight is working as expected, and for further information while performing RAM upgrade or checking with the Hardware in the computer. Please refer the service training videos to familiarize and guided to disassemble for avoiding further issues:

Re: z500 Backlit keyboard stopped working

I did refer to the videos however the version of the video on the site does not contain the backit keyboard and therefore does not explain which way the additional connector is to be installed.

Questions: Now that i have upgraded my Memory in my Lenovo to make it even more faster, have i invalidated my Waranaty. I hope not!????

Thanks

Ketan

Re: z500 Backlit keyboard stopped working

Hi Ketan,

CRU’S (Customer Replaceable Units) are parts that can be replaced by customers, and which would not cause warranty to be voided. However, you are advised to be careful when carrying out such work; if you are unsure about how to replace or add an additional RAM, as in the scenario above, it is recommended that you get someone who is experienced in doing so to carry out the work. Also, please check and confirm that the part you are attempting to change or modify is a CRU so that your warranty will not be voided.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

I also installed the new driver, and it didn't solve the problem.

Re: z500 Backlit keyboard stopped working

If you had removed the keyboard, makesure you have connected the connection the correct way around.
