I understand your concern as the steps are bit complicated and may affect other internal parts of the Laptop while upgrading the RAM. Technical assistance is required for this concern. Please let me know once you receive the Laptop back.
Hope to hear back soon

The HMM says DDR3 in page 27 , see below. And the Parts List gives the examples of DDR3L Rams in the HMM
DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM × 2 (max 16 GB)
does DDR3 RAM work or do i need DDR3L ? Can you help us out what vendors of RAM are recommended and/or work with Z510 i5 Processor Model as most of the parts recommended in HMM are not available. Can you ratify if below RAM part numbers work. - Thanks a lot
I am looking at 4GB Variants
Kingston Value RAM 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) SODIMM Memory Module KVR16S11/4
Kingston DDR3 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) RAM (KTH-X3B/4G)
Kingston DDR3 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) RAM (KTD-L3C/4GFR)
Transcend DDR3 4 GB Laptop RAM (JM1333KSN-4G)
Transcend DDR3 4 GB Laptop RAM (JM1066KSN-4G)
Corsair DDR3 4 GB Laptop RAM (CMSO4GX3M1A1600C11)
HP DDR3 4 GB Laptop RAM (H2P64AA)

Agree - getting at the ram is needlessly difficult on this machine(done others). I recently purchased a Z510 with I7-4700MQ(2.4ghz) with 4GB of ram. I made an under-researched attempt at upgrading the memory by removing the original 4GB card and replacing with two 8GB cards. Although it appears to run normally most of the time, I am getting regular crashes referencing "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" or "memory management". Specs on memory: DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • Crucial. Page 27 of the maintenance manual appears to show 16GB max. but all the official threads keep saying 8GB Max. Question: 1.) do they say only 8GB because they assume you want to keep the orignal 4 and it cant take 4&8 or is the 8GB max limit a function of the bios or motherboard(I7 supports 32) and 2.) if 8GB is the hard max - does it matter if I leave one 8GB board in the first slot or do you have to have 4x2. Thanks

I understand your concern and any of the internal parts might get affected while upgrading the RAM and a trained technician is required.
Do post us back for further queries.
