Purpose:

Provide general information regarding the functionality, versions, location in the catalog, and installation of the LUC Agent.

Functionality:

The LUC Agent is a light weight tool that performs data conversions in WMI to assist with the applicability rules for each update in the Lenovo Updates Catalog.  The applicability rules determine if an update is installed or is applicable to the device.  The agent being installed is a prerequisite to deploying Lenovo driver, BIOS, or software updates from the Lenovo Updates Catalog.  The LUC Agent process will only be invoked on a Software Updates Scan Cycle or Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle, whether it be from the schedule defined in client settings or by starting manually on the device.  If the LUC Agent is not installed, updates may show as applicable even after installing or updates may not show up at all.

Versions:

  • LUCAgent 1005 or 1.0.0.5 (Current)
    • (Fix) Resolves high CPU utilization during the Software Updates Scan Cycle or Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle.
  • LUCAgent 1003.1 or 1.0.0.3
    • Initial release

Location in the Catalog:

The LUC Agent can be found in the Lenovo Updates Catalog.  The LUC Agent product can be found by managing product, under the Lenovo vendor category.

Once the product is enabled and the catalog is synchronized, the update will be available in the list of updates to be published.

As seen in Lenovo Patch:

As seen in SCCM (1806 and newer) Third Party Software Update Catalogs > All Software Updates:

Installation:

The LUC Agent installs silently to devices and is deployed just like any other software update.  Since the agent is a prerequisite to deploying Lenovo Update Catalog updates, it should only be installed on Lenovo devices.
