No, I was wondering though, what mechanism was used to apply the changes.  You will need to add the MSP file to the update to ensure your changes prevail.  In the template library, you can create a template and apply it to the update and it will stick with the update and new updates.  This will prevent you having to edit each update released.

Hi,

Sorry about the newbie questions.   I have not had a chance to play with the product yet.

So, to update say WinZip via Lenovo Patch Utility we would apply a WinZip .msp patch file?   Similar to what Adobe Reader and Acrobat has?

I didn’t know WinZip supplied .msp’s.     To be able to potentially Patch/Upgrade other products, say Amyuni Pdf Suite, they would also have to have an available .msp file too?     Or is there other files used, depending on the vendor?

I was thinking MST but MSP got typed.  Are you using an MST file to apply customizations or are you changing the InstallDir from the command line.   Something along those lines.

Hi,

Our packaging team would typically use .mst files.

In terms of updating software via Lenovo Patch Utility, this tool helps 'automate' patching/upgrading 3rd party SW via SCCM, correct?   But i am assuming for a product like WinZip and others, before you can do that, you would first need to Purchase the appropriate WinZip license for the newer release etc.

Sorry about the newbie questions again.

Would you by chance have any good documents, videos to share on the use of Lenovo Patch Utility with SCCM?     I will soon be given access to an UAT Environment testing it.

Thanks again!

@JeremyM10101010

The plugin is designed to be integrated into SCCM.  It provides 2 catalogs, a 3rd Party Applications catalog (Adobe, Chrome, Firefox, Winzip, and many other titles) and the Lenovo Updates catalog.  The 3rd Party Applications catalog will allow you to update software, but does require that you maintain your licensing to stay current.  The Lenovo Updates catalog contains drivers, BIOS, and software.

Here is the landing page for our Knowledge Base Portal.  The user guide can be found under the Getting Started section in the Getting Started - Links and Prerequisites article.

Hi,

Just confirming, the listing of the 3rd party software catalog:  https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/ht510543

Is this site/.pdf file always 'up to date'?

For example i do not see the latest version of VLC Media Player, Chrome or Firefox posted on it.

This will be not always be up to date.  The most up to date information will be the catalog itself.  I will see if we can get this updated on a more frequent time line.

Thanks @tlawson

Any update if other 3rd party applications can be Added to the catalog such as:  Adobe Creative Cloud apps: Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, Dreamweaver etc.     Also Amyuni products such as Amyuni PDF Suite.

If no, just curious on why not.

I know you mentioned Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application can no longer be installed via Lenovo Patch due to  now needing an user-based install.   It may be the same reason for the other Adobe Creative Cloud apps...

Thanks again!
