Lenovo Patch Updates stuck in loop

2020-06-12, 19:58 PM

Hello,

We have a number of clients this week that have started to see the same updates showing up after every reboot. The pattern seems to be they show up as required in software center, they install and request a reboot, after the reboot, they'll show as installed until the next eval runs, at which point they'll show as failed and start re-downloading, reinstalling. Unfortunately, this week has been very busy, and I haven't had the time to properly look into the problem. Next week is not shaping up to be much better, but I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction I might start looking.

All the looping updates are Lenovo drivers.

On the Gen2 X1 Yoga I've been using to test/troubleshoot when I can, I've seen multiple versions of the same driver trying to install. In SCCM/Lenovo Patch, I see that neither is superseded. Here is an example of two that show up on that client.

This one I understand why it's showing up on a ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd 20JF:

I haven't had a lot of time to dig through logs, but nothing jumped out at me in ccm\logs or the WindowsUpdate.log I generated. We've been using Lenovo Patch for months, and this is the first time I've run into something like this, so any help is appreciated! I will provide more info as I have time to dig through things.

Re:Lenovo Patch Updates stuck in loop

2020-06-13, 0:01 AM
I discovered the catalog agent updates haven’t been publishing (mistakenly filtered out) and we were using 1005. Quick testing shows 1006 may resolve the issue. Will update when I know for sure.

This was indeed the case. Installing catalog agent 1006 fixed the issue.
