Lenovo-patch-sccm Security Requirements

2021-10-14, 4:40 AM

Hi Community,

I have been asked to investigate the possible security requirements for Lenovo Patch for SCCM.

One of the things we will need to consider is what data is going to Lenovo and what access control changes need to be made.

Does anyone have any information on this and whether they have done a security assessment

Many thanks

Lenovo Patch for MEM is a plugin to the Configuration Manager console.  The functionality behind the plugin is to download installers from Third-Party Application vendors and publish as applications into Intune or MECM.  Additionally, Lenovo Patch for MEM will pull updates from Lenovo and Third-Party Application vendors and to publish to All Software Updates in MECM.  At no point does data leave Intune or MECM and go back to Lenovo.

Where you mention access control changes, I assume you are requesting what rights does a user require in MECM to perform these functions and also, what needs to be done to allow downloads into the environment.

Here is a link to the Lenovo Patch for MEM: Knowledge Base Articles.

Regarding User Rights, I suggest reviewing our Getting Started: Links and Prerequisites KB Article.

Regarding what needs to be done to allow downloads into the environment, I suggest reviewing our URL Exception List and Certificate Verification Sites to Allow KB Articles.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Thanks TLawson

We are wanting to know if any specific ports needs opening on our Server to download the updates to CM. Does it just require basic HTTP/HTTPS access only?

Thank you for the links i will have a review of the information, this will help with my report to management

Yes, everything comes down over HTTP/HTTPS ports when downloading from the web.
