Updates detected as "Missing" but not applcable for machine type

Working with several models and seeing some updates detected as missing in the WUAHandler.log but not applicable to the specific model based on the notes in the Lenovo Patch console.

For example on the Lenovo Thinkpad P52 the following are detected as missing in the WUAHAndler.log but are not applicable based on the notes listed:

Update (Missing): Intel Chipset Driver - 10 [64] (74553c1c-ace9-46bb-8607-7b4fe9179ac9, 1) WUAHandler 5/15/2019 10:08:09 AM 5748 (0x1674)
Update (Missing): Intel Chipset Driver - 7 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64] (aae50839-435c-48c3-8e98-cd8d62090d41, 1) WUAHandler 5/15/2019 10:08:09 AM 5748 (0x1674)

The following are showing as installed in the WUAHandler.log but also do not appear to be applicable for the Thinkpad P52 model either

Update (Installed): Intel Chipset Driver - 10 [64] (a0d98f28-5f96-4808-a066-bb1991ae9f00, 1) WUAHandler 5/15/2019 10:08:09 AM 5748 (0x1674)
Update (Installed): Intel Chipset Driver - 7 [32,64]/8.1 [64] (82e55b57-b1b8-471a-9f49-f4704cf8cec2, 1) WUAHandler 5/15/2019 10:08:09 AM 5748 (0x1674)

This is causing us some issue to try to determine which updates should be included vs excluded for the patch packages.

The two updates showing as missing - were added to an update package  but since they are not applicable they attempt to reinstall on each software update scan. We can remove the specific updates but they continue to show as missing in the software update scan logs.

Also believe the reporting numbers in SCCM will show machines as applicable/no installed in the summary for installed vs missing updates.

Not sure if there are others these are just a few we have come across....

How do we ensure only applicable updates are detected and showing in the WUAHandler.log for specific machine types?

Re: Updates detected as "Missing" but not applcable for machine type

@mwilson20,

I have seen the (missing) bit show up before.  It seems to be part of the publishing process and it not seeing the file right away during a sync.  I have seen that even when the file is there.

Additionally, the computer will scan on all updates for reporting but should only install the updates in that SUG, which is why you will see all the items scanned in the WUAHandler.log file.  The scan will provide information back to the All Software Updates view in CM and update the column information for Required, Installed, Not Required, Unknown, and Total.
