reboot pending "Intel Graphics Driver"

When installing this update on a Lenovo Thinkpad P52s, Windows 10, 1909, a reboot hangs in the Software Center "requires restart"

Intel Graphics Driver (Windows 10 Version 1703 or Later) - 10 [64] - 27.20.100.8337
n27dt21w.exe
Intel UHD Graphics 620

If you try to install this update manually from the Lenovo web site or from the local Lenovo path you will get the following message: This operating system is not supported.

Recently we have seen an increase in hanging reboots. 
Is there a chance that the driver will only try to install once, and the second time it detects that it is not compatible?

I am still working on this case.  I have tested this on a T580 that I have easily available.  The P52s and the T580 are very similar and share this driver.  One core difference is that the P52s has an Nvidia P500 graphics card in it.  As of right now, I do not have one immediately available, but can get one in a few days.  I will be doing that and will report back when I have more information.

I have been able to get our P52s and have tested the n27dt21w package through both Lenovo Patch and by installing it manually from the website.  I have had no issues installing the package either time. Can you tell me what version of the driver is already installed on the device?  Can you review the Windows Update log to see if there are any error codes.

 

In regards to the Restart Computer popup, how have you set up the Deployment.  Do you have it set to run a updates deployment evaluation cycle after restart?  I have found that having that set will detect the installation and should hold off any further installation actions.

I was able to fix the problem, I had to manually remove the the last installed graphics card driver:

goto Device Manager -> rightclick the Driver -> Uninstall -> Delete the driver softrware for this device



What can we do to avoid such problems in the future?

I just had another case, same problem: 

Pending restart (since 1 month, according the User)
Realtek Audio Features for (Windows 10 Version 1709 or Later)  x64 - 6.0.8882.1
OS: Windwos 10, 1803
X1 Yoga 3rd Gen (Type: 20LE)

This time the error was similar like, it cannot be determined which driver is installed, if the EXE is executed manually.

driver uninstalled from the Device Manager with the checkmark: "Delete the driver Software for this device"
and the driver was successfully installed.

Do you have a suggestion?

What happens when the customer restarts the device?  Does a restart resolve the driver update?

We see quite a few of such pending restart / failed updates as well, they keep showing restart required, in my case it is Intel Chipset drivers, Audio, Intel Management Software.

Multiple restarts dont help, i have not found a pattern but there is something not 100% in update evaluation i would guess.

 

Tried steps: SCCM Client reinstallation, Re-Deploy of the updates, Re-Download of the updates

 

Example: Intel Chipset Driver -10 [64] - 10.1.1.44 Article ID n1oic04w

Windows 1803 System currently installed 10.1.1.38

 

Shows in Software Center as requires restart, you can restart as often as you like. Deployment is set to rerun evaluation.

Do you have the LUCAgent Installed on your systems?  If not, please have a look at the requirements that can be found in the User Guide in this KB on page 36 and in this KB article.

thanks for the speedy reply, yes, we deploy the agent first and i verified it is on the machine showing the issue.
