Lenovo S860 Low Signal after KitKat 4.4.2 Update

2014-06-18, 9:26 AM

Hello, i just bought Lenovo S860 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM 4 days ago and this phone is really something! I love the design and the features specially for 4000mAh battery. It works flawlessly and the signal strength is excellent

Recently i got a message that 4.4.2 update are available (0.99GB size), so I updated my phone OTA

(Setting>System Setting>About Phone>System Update).

Now, I'm running on 4.4.2 kitkat, baseband version: S860.ROW.V102, 2014/05/29 19:38, Build Number: S860_ROW_S209_140529

I'm dissapointed about the weak signal after I updated my phone to kitkat and now i want to downgrade it to original Jellybean version. Is there any way to downgrade th phone or improving the signal strength?

If anyone finds a solution to the weak signal problem: please post it.

I'm interested in the S860, but the low signal bug keeps me from buying it. I'll follow this thread to see how Lenovo handles this problem.

Edit: the low signal problem seems to happen in all lenovo S series phones. It seems to be caused by the different versions of this phone: the international 2gb version is incompatible with the Chinese modem.img. The solution proposed is to flash your phone with the S860 firmware, modified to include a working modem.img from the S920. Did anyone try this? More info: google s920 modem.img or see https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Phones/Lenovo-P780-very-weak-network-signal/td-p/1450291/page/3.

Method 1 :

Maybe you can try Modem_S860_V102_ROW. Can be downloaded at Download modem_s860_V102

* Recovery TWRP
* Only For 2GB Row Version

- Go into recovery twrp
- Install Modem
- After that, Clear cache / dalvik
- Reboot System

Signal will disappear after a while doing flash modem. All you need to do is wait a while and wait until the full signal. But it would be an error when you send a chat message like the application of bbm / line.

Do not worry, you just need to reset the network again with the steps:

Perform randomly select and wait, and finally the choice:

- Network mode = (auto)
- Network Operators select back automatically
- Reboot

=========================================

Method  2  :

**Disable Fast dormancy**

- Go Into Engineering MTK Mode (Using Mobileuncle MTK Tool)
- Tab Telephony > Fast dormancy > Config FD
- Select "Turn Off R8 FD & Legacy FD, OK.  there will be a toast of "Success"
- Back > Back > Back > to Exit

========================================

Method  3  :

1. Go to Engineer Mode (MTK)
2. Network and select Selecting GSM / WCDMA (auto)
3. Restart/ Reboot.

========================================

All of these methods I have done and the results are clear. Strong signal in position 3-4 bar. In the same space and the same position.

i'm from indonesia, sorry for my english :D
