SSCT Sunset 5/29

2018-04-23, 12:27 PM

Hello, the current plan is to sunset the non-ThinkServer functionality in the SSCT on the 5/29 release. Starting 5/29 the System x, ThinkSystem, Flex, Storage and all other products will be removed from the SSCT. Only the ThinkServer and associated options and services will be in the SSCT until all the ThinkServer products go end of life.

The DCSC offline configurator is the replacement tool.

If you have any feedback on this, please let me know. Cheers.

Re: SSCT Sunset 5/29

Dear Bill,

we are configuring 30-50 setups/day here in Austria and we do not have the impression that DCSC offline is yet capable of replacing SSCT. "Sunsetting" SSCT would have a severe impact on the speed we can provide offers to our customers.

DCSC has incredibly slow load times: This even deteriorated ( with every update) from the first version of DCSC offline until now.

DCSC very often gets stuck ( with 100% CPU usage) in load error screens.

DCSC crashes without error message in different stages of initial launch or swapping tabs. IT seems to be "over the hill" once I get the point where I can actually choose parts then I am capable of finalizing a config.

This is the case with me , my colleagues AND a colleague with a completely different Enterprise setup ( permissions/ location/ network etc).

I kindly ask you to postpone the sunset until DCSC is usable in actual working environments.

KR  Arnold

Dear Arnold,

Thank-you for reaching out to me, I completely understand the need for speed. What Partner or Distributor do you work for? I will escalate your concerns to the DCSC management teams, and knowing who you are will certainly have an influence.

Also, what OS are you running and what are your workstation specs, like CPU, memory, etc.? This way the team will have all the specifics to better understand your environment.

I hope you have a nice day and evening.

Cheers, Bill.

Dear Arnold,

Thank-you for your prompt reply. The only thing I think may have some relation is the Windows Enterprise. I know of other folks that run Enterprise have some issues with DCSC and even the SSCT.

Have you tried running the DCSC in compatibility mode? Maybe run in a VM, if allowed.

I know Peter Faulkner and will send him an email to see what he may have done so far with your issue(s).

I will certainly take this to the DCSC development team for their analysis and input. Cheers, Bill.
