Same problem, brand new device which cannot be used due to this error. Why does it take so long to fix Lenovo?

Same problem.

 


Two days of full testing!

 


No router fault (technical service in support) 

 


I tried different wifi configuration: wpa, wpa2, aes/tkip, ... nothing goes!

 


Please help us !!!! or refund the device thanks!

Same for me, tested with 2 different networks stuck as well. Is it possible to have an update from lenovo!

Hi everyone

 

I suffered the same issue and solved it.

(sorry, in French)

 

To resume:

- to update, the device use this service: https://smartdm.lenovo.com/

- in Europe, the update service is hosted on AWS Europe, and is not working (503 error)

- in North America, the same service is hosted on AWS US-West, and IS working.

 

 

So I forced my Smart Clock 2 to use the US servers (DNS spoofing), and the update worked:

Warning: after doing this, my device switched to German language (I'm French !), and I had to hard reset it 2 times to make it speak French again.

 

Support, please ask you IT team to fix https://smartdm.lenovo.com/ on eu-central-1.elb.amazonaws.com servers

Hi, finally a positive message. 

What i wonder is how i can fix this if i only can install the clock using google home with the home app.

Can' t pick any server this way.

Or am i missing something?

to do this, you need to modify your WIFI to use an American DNS server, like this one:  164.163.1.90

it will resolve smartdm.lenovo.com to the US server

 

 

but I do not recommend to do this, because your device may reboot in a foreign language, and stay like this forever

 

the good way, is to wait that Lenovo fix their server

Hello. Thanks for this help. And if i use a VPN and switch it to US, the DNS server Will be change to US and it Will work? (Sorry i'm french too but i'm write french for the other people :) )

This worked for me! I changed the DNS server in my router, factory reset the Lenovo clock, and it updated successfully. After the update, I of course reverted the DNS change. Thank you for the tip!

 

It's a pity that Lenovo is unable to setup a modern server infrastructure with fallback mechanisms. If a single update server fails, the smart devices simply stop working? This is unacceptable.

ok let's explain in english and french ;-)

 

you cannot use a VPN, it won't work because it will only change the DNS on your phone or laptop, not on the smart clock, you should just change the DNS server in the DHCP settings of your internet router:

 

 

Sur ta box, tu vas dans les paramètres DHCP pour changer ce que ta box va donner à la smart clock comme config réseau. Quand ta smart clock se connecte au wifi, elle demande sur le réseau qu'on lui donne son adresse ip, la passerelle par défaut, les serveurs DNS etc... c'est le serveur DHCP de ta box qui fait ça, il faut juste lui dire de donner un DNS aux US:
