Decided to risk it. Went from 67 to 90, no issues, rebooted as normal afterwards.

So far the fan is still turning on though, was hoping it wouldn't as I know its not too warm.

Guess I still need to remove the fan and install a real heatsink.

i called to send it in, and they said that they were still waiting on management to give them official word on what to do.  they are looking for some kind of solution that will prevent them from having to accept all these laptops back for servicing.

i was given a case number and told to call back monday.  so if anyone is waiting to call...just wait till monday.

BIOS Update fail - is my S10 screwed?

2009-05-17, 13:58 PM
Hi, I just an S10 last week and was loving it.  I went to update the Bios yesterday (16 May) with the new version (the beep when plugged unplugged was super annoying, I saw that new version I could turn that sound off), and everything looked good with the install...all 14 modules updated fine, then the system automatically restarted...but to a black screen, and that's all I get.  nothing.  I can tell that it gets power and the blue HD activity light comes on once, but that's it.  What do I do?

I just read the general thread on this BIOS update... I tried the battery removal. Still nothing.  I'll give them a call to send this in.  Wow, this is a pretty huge bug... looks like I lose all my data too.  What a great first week!

Mine was from 38 to 90, the only problem was the fan that turned off as i mentioned earlier... To conclude that my fan is off i put my cigarette near the exhaust hole where it blows off the heat... the smoke just goes up instead of flying off...
Lenovo S10 - 6cell - 2GB RAM, since March 1st 2009 and still loving it...!!!

Sent mine in yesterday.  Lenovo emailed me a form, which I took to a nearby Fedex Kinkos.  They boxed it up and sent it 2 day for free.  Should have it back by a week from Monday.

Hi Guys,

FYI.

Those S10 that is still a brick, there's nothing we can do. I have contacted Lenvo Service Centre (Singapore). They will be picking my S10 tomorrow from my home, get the mother-board fixed, hopefully within a week.

Good luck guys...

Joe

Has anyone with a bricked S10 tried pressing the Fn and B keys while turning the power on? On a Dell mini 9 this will force the unit to try restoring the bios from an image stored on a usb floppy drive. Obviously for this to work you'll need a usb floppy and a disk with the bios image on it, possible also some other files.

Would be interesting to see if the S10 will at least try to read from the floppy if this sequence is performed. I don't have a usb floppy drive to try this myself.

Same exact issue with me: bricked.  I will try and leave the battery out all night, otherwise call them and probably do a return.

Apparently a lot of people are having this same issue.
