Softmaker is pretty generous with its older editions, and they're often freeware. Ashampoo is a portable offshoot of Softmaker 2008; it's free and runs on USB or any directory on the hard drive. And I *think* SM 2008 itself is still freeware.
No *.docx stuff on the 2008 and below, however. Even on my ancient Sony Vaio Picturebook (PCG-C1VN) with its 114mb RAM, Softmaker 2010 runs without fail, and I run it on my Linux machines too, machines of varying strength.
The 2010 version for desktop is identical for the phone, which is why I stick with an HTC Touch Pro 2, despite its age. Using Textmaker for sixty seconds invariably makes a user wonder about the basic approaches from both QuickOffice and Docs-to-go. And when I say basic, I mean primitive

the problem is that the hidden partition w/ that OKR image file is gone forever ... I just want to get it back ...
