Broken Screen for Ideapad U310 Touch

Hello Lenovo,

I'm a business management student from India.

I purchased Lenovo Ideapad U310 Touch model this May from the US (through Amazon) and have been using it without any issues till the last month. Last month I noticed that the hinge had developed tension and there was additional pressure on the lid or the screen area while closing. I thought it would be a routine issue and took it to my college's hardware repair center, but they suggested I handle the issue via Lenovo Support as it required opening the laptop.
When I checked Lenovo support through customer care (India), I was told that the U series is not covered by International warranty. But I checked if the Lenovo service center would still have a look at the issue, to which I was told that it would be chargeable. I thought it was fair enough and took the laptop to the service center in Jamshedpur this afternoon.

To my utter disappointment, the technician was unable to open up the area near the screen (where the problem was supposedly), but he also got the screen cracked while trying to. Now I'm left with a laptop that cannot be used as even though the screen display is intact, the touch sensors detect screen touch near the cracked area and keep the cursor rooted to that point. Also, the issue with the hinge could also not be fixed. All to add to the woes, I will have to manage a few days (don't know how many) without a laptop and also shell out the expense from my pocket!

Now my question is, will the screen for Ideapad U310 normal (non-touch) version work for my laptop? I am not a very touch friendly user and it will save me some bucks also I've heard - hence the question. And could anyone direct me to a site where this can be purchased (for a customer in India)?

Please help me.

Regards,
Rahul

Re: Broken Screen for Ideapad U310 Touch

Hi Rahul,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear about the situation that you are facing regarding U310 touch Laptop, as it is ultra book Touch model displays can only replaced by the same kind and not the normal one, as Laptop was purchased in other country and international warranty is not applicable in India for this model, the parts will be ordered from the region of manufacture if the part is not available.

I'm sorry to inform you that the only option available to get the same type display replaced on a chargeable basis.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Re: Broken Screen for Ideapad U310 Touch

Hi Shiv_k,

When I contacted the Lenovo technical support team, they tell me that this laptop's part will not be available in India (since it has been purchased in the US) and thus, can only be serviced there. The support team also bluntly mentioned that the technician who broke my screen will have to take it upon himself personally if I'm to be reimbursed for my loss.

I'm not very happy with the overall situation - any suggestions?

In case this will help, the serial# of my laptop is QB*****

Regards,

Rahul

Re: Broken Screen for Ideapad U310 Touch

Hi Rahul

I am pretty much in the same situation as you are (minus a screen broken by a technician). Were you able to find a solution finally?

My Ideapad U310 touch was bought in the US and suddenly developed the hinge issue. Lenovo support doesn't cover it in India and the US support want me to ship it back to the US where it can be repaired on a chargeable basis (min $80 but likely more).

I could find the hinge replacement part for U310 (non-touch) on pcHub for $36 - it looks like U310 Touch must be using the same model:

http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/291-94675-25548/Lenovo-IdeaPad-U310-LCD-Hinge.html

Searched youtube for videos on how to replace the hinge and again i could't find anything for U310 Touch, but found a video for U410 which looks close enough to be followed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sGwQBiGw-Y

It seems that you have to open pretty much everything to replace the hinge. I am thinking of giving this a try, though am a bit anxious because a cable or not here or there could mean that laptop doesn't work! In case you have found a better solution, do share.

Question for Shiv_k from Lenovo: The customer support's issue has only been "unavailability of parts for U310 touch in India". If I get the parts, will your authorized service centres help me replace it?

Thanks

Parul

Re: Broken Screen for Ideapad U310 Touch

Hi Shiva,

So what should be the procedure for this? My Ideapad U310 touch was purchased in the US and I am in Bangalore, India now. I have already contacted the India toll free phone number and was told that this won't be supported and I should send this back to the US. I have also spoken to the authorized service centre in my city and they are willing to replace if I order the parts and give to them. Should I call Lenovo phone support again, or tell my Iocal (Bangalore) authorized service centre to procure these parts?
