Cracked S400 Screen

2013-09-12, 15:42 PM

I have recently had the same issue with my Ideapad s400.   I am absolutely furious with the Lenovo support as they have been unwilling to discuss the issue or come to a resolution.

I purchased the machine from Best Buy on the 12th of Aug.  We have never taken the machine out te house and on approximately the 19th of Aug we opened the machine and there was a crack in the screen about 2 inches.  This should not happen in a week oldmachine that has not been manhandled or dropped in any way.  I returned the laptop to Best Buy who suggested that it would be better to contact Lenovo direct as I told them that I saw online that this has happened to a number of machines.   Clearly the casing around the screen is too flimsy and causes undue twisting on the glass.

Finally got to contact Lenovo customer support last week and was referred to post sales dept.  They at first were helpful then was cut off.  On dialing back I was told that it is not covered under warranty under any circumstances and that I should pay $80 and return it for repair after which the full repair will be quoted.

I am not prepared to do this as there was not misuse, the machine was not dropped or banged and this happened only 1 week after purchase,

I am extremely disappointed in Lenovo considering that I returned a Dell machine to dell in order to buy the Lenova.  Customer support at Dell was fantastic and went out there way to ensure a satisfied customer.

I have 2 ref numbers.  One from original customer support, the other from post sales dept.

EXACTLY same thing happened on my Ideapad.  Bought on 12 Aug 2013 and cracked one week later.  Lenovo support stinks.  They were not willing to discuss the issue.  They say it is my problem!!

Cracked S400 Screen

2013-09-12, 18:23 PM

Anyone not getting help from lenovo should exercise their legal consumer rights, first you need to know them depending on the country you live in. Seems a cracked screen makes it not fit for purpose. In some countries even if warranty is out consumer has 7 years right to an exchange or replacement because it should work for that long.

Once you know your consumer rights then state them and if they do not help and all means have been exhausted, phoning, emailing, writing letters, you may only have one option left. If you bought from them directly do a chargeback and if from a retailer then your contract is with them so they should help facilitate an exchange or refund with lenovo instead of you having to do this. If you paid using a VISA debit or any credit card you can do a chargeback for such legitmiate reasons as this, but do not quote me on this, ask your bank or seek legal advice first as I might be incorrect.  If your chargeback is disputed then you will most likely have no option other than going to court to recover your money.

GSPman,

I'd like to help - I received your PM and will reply with more details there.  I've started a new thread for you on this and moved your comments about cracked screens on the S10-3T and Yoga 13 here, because this is really a different system and different circumstance.

Thanks for speaking up - let's see what we can work out.

Mark

Mark--

I would like you to contact me about the cracked screen on my Lenovo Yoga 13 that cracked within 2 weeks of purchase. This is clearly a major problem and we are just starting to see it surface here on the forum.

Please get in touch with me directly.

Thanks

James Jacobson

JamesJ,

I've moved all the Yoga13 screen cracks into one thread.   Please send me a private message with your contact information, the type and serial on the bottom of your yoga 13 as well.

I've noted that there are a number of stories - they are spaced out over the last six months, and the circumstances of each seem different.  I think we should keep in mind that we ship millions of systems a year, so there are bound to be some number of screens that get cracked.

I'll look for your PM.

Thanks

Mark

Hi

A cracked screen has appeared on my daughter's Ideapad S400 which was bought for her 16th birthday in June this year. It was not dropped or mis-handled. John Lewis say that it is not covered under thier 2 year warranty. Any help would be appreciated. Rob
