Disk drive unrecognised (Ideapad S510p)

I have a Lenovo Ideapad S510p, running on Windows 10, but I've had this problem since before I upgraded (I don't remember if it was Windows 7 or 8).

Basically, my CD drive is nowhere to be found under My Computer, nor in the Hardware tab. When I press the button on the drive, though, the light lights up, but doesn't eject. Inserting a pin into the tiny hole beside the button (as suggested in another forum) did not help.

Following the instructions here didn't help either; I couldn't find the registry entry.

I believe it may be a software problem, but I have no idea how to fix it. (I'm not a very tech person unfortunately)

Re: Disk drive unrecognised (Ideapad S510p)

Hi Fest,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Please check if CD ROM is detecting in BIOS or not?

Shashi

Re: Disk drive unrecognised (Ideapad S510p)

Hi fest_osnt ,

It would be best to check if the optical drive is being detected in the BIOS to isolate the issue from the software.

When the computer is off, press this button (Novo Key item1 page 5) to start the Lenovo OneKey Recovery system or the BIOS setup utility, or to enter the boot menu.

On the main tab should show up the device like harddrives and likewise optical drive if recognized on the machine level.

If you have the skill and tools , you may also reseat the optical drive (page 36) making sure that it is not loose from its port too.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Disk drive unrecognised (Ideapad S510p)

I wasn't sure what to look for under BIOS, but under ODD, it shows "Not Installed".

I removed the drive manually, dusted it off a bit, restarted the computer without the drive, then reinserted the drive before checking BIOS.

Please advise.

Re: Disk drive unrecognised (Ideapad S510p)

Hi fest_osnt ,

If ODD is not detected on BIOS most likely , it would not show it within windows.

If you can try a spare optical drive (ODD) or swap current ODD on a different laptop then you can isolate which is failing.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Disk drive unrecognised (Ideapad S510p)

Hi Fest,

In addition to Spidey, I would also suggest you to visit the nearest Lenovo service center since doing anything would might void the warranty.

Shashi
