I have a IdeaPad S340-15IWL. Currently it has an 512GB SSD, there is a HDD slot, so I want to install a quality HDD.
All lenovo could tell me is that the height has to be 7mm. Has anyone installed an HDD into one of these Ideapads?

Hi dazzled,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Product specification sheet shows it supports dual drive:
HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high, 5400rpm
Machines like 81N8000RTW , 81N8000STW variants of the ideapad S340-15IWL have both 128GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe 3.0x2 NVMe + 1TB HDD 5400rpm 2.5" and a lot more.
Hardware manual (page 42) shows the steps.
Parts lookup under Configuration> compatible tab would also list OEM harddrive (Commodity list to filter harddrive) for you.
Examples are PN 5H20M37521 ST Rosewood2D 7mm 2TB HDD and PN 01FR402 Storage,HDD,1T,5400,7mm,SATA,WD.
I hope this helps answer your query.
Regards

Hi dazzled,
There usually is a sponge spacer on the hdd casing that can adjust to the .2mm difference.
The casing itself would ensure that fitting would allow it to snug fine. Just the same, when buying non OEM parts, do check return option just in case. HDD SATA used by OEM are mostly universal so I am still optimistic.

I'd suggest putting a 2.5" SATA SSD instead of a mechanical HDD....
Way faster, more reliable, better for battery life ....
