Hard Drive structure and Windows 8

2013-04-17, 21:39 PM
Hi,

I just bought a lenovo u410 with windows 8 installed. The ideapad as you might know has a hybrid hard disk, 500gb and 25 gb ssd. Ive noticed that on my ultrabook windows 8 is installed on the 500gb hard drive rather than on the 25gb ssd. I thought that for faster booting id find windows installed on the ssd.

Is this normal? Can someone explain the hard drive structure of lenovo?

Thanks

Mark

It's likely that the 25gb is for caching on a hybrid drive (disk+ssd in one unit), or a separate mSATA ssd. Not likely large enough to hold OS.

Thanks for your reply.

Microsoft says that 20GB are required for windows 8 64 bit

How does caching work? Does it take a lot of space?

Just searched on caching and I think now I understand the concept.  Need to check if my laptop has Intel Smart Response.
