I bought U410 touch (i7, 1TB, win 8) 2 weeks ago. The right hand side of the touch pad (where the hand rests while using keyboard) is warming quite frequently and makes it uncomfortable. I am planning to return the laptop, as it makes it unusable. Especially the lower side of the wrist is thin skinned and should not be exposed to continuous heat.
I have not seen any other posting yet on this topic, hence wondering if this is a defect in my machine and not a generic issue.
Thanks for any comments.

Just got the U410 i3 Win8. I have immediately noticed that the right hand side of this laptop gets warm! Is this a know issue???? You can feel the slight heat difference radiate through the keybord keys, and right corner under the silver case where the i3 sticker is!!
ANYONE ELSE FIND THIS TO BE THE CASE?
Is it normal?

Is there a fan setting in the bios U410 ( currently running BIOS v. 65CN90WW)
OR is there somewhere else to adjust fan speed?

There is no option for that in bios, you can't control it via any soft2are either.
If you want, you can use a cooling pad.
Though just wondering, why do you need to adjust the fan speed.

I want to adjust the fan speed because the right hand side of the keyboard (especially lower right where you hand rests whilst typing gets hot!
Its where the HDD is located on these models (and common to many users who can be bothered to raise it as a problem), obviously not enough insulation or simply not enough thought was put into design... it makes it uncomfortable to type, as one hand gets rather warm whilst the other stays normal.
I have 2 u410s and both have exactly the same issue...bought from two different shops!!
you can feel he heat coming off the keyboard... that's why I wanted to adjust fan setting.
I was even considering replacing the hard drive with a SSD to maybe alleviate this problem...but then again, I'd be fixing a problem that shouldn't be there?
