IdeaPad S12 locks up when booting

Yesterday my netbook started having trouble booting when it has been turned off. During  the BIOS self-test (when the big lenovo logo is displayed) it locks up with gray horizontal dotted lines in the display.

The only thing I can do is to hold the power-button till it turns off again, then I can turn it on and it boots normally (so far).

The problem seems to occur everytime it has been turned off now Smiley Sad. Hope someone can help.

It's an S12 with Intel chipset and 2 GB ram with Ubuntu 10.04 installed. I don't think it's a software problem since it locks up before the self-test is done.

Re: IdeaPad S12 locks up when booting

Thanks yigit.

Will try that later.

EDIT: I was going to try out your advice today, but thought I would try another hint from this forum: Remove the battery and power supply and hold the power-button for 10 secs. And guess what: That did the trick Smiley Very Happy

At least for now. (Maybe it's just a periodic fail in the Ram. I'll have to wait and see.)
