IdeaPad U410 won't power on

I have an IdeaPad U410 purchased July 2012.  It was working perfectly until about 1 month ago when it suddenly stopped working.  The laptop, for all intends and purposes is dead: no LEDs or any indication of life.  I have confirmed the power outlet works, I can measure 20 V out of the transformer.  The power connection at the laptop feels secure and I read 20 V at the input terminals on the system board.  I have tried Lenovo's suggestion of disconnecting the battery and all other peripherials and daughter boards.  No indication of life.  I have left the laptop and battery charging overnight, I have tried leaving the laptop unplugged and the battery disconnected overnight.  I even tried Mr. Masnick's silly power button recovery technique.  Still, no indication.

 

There is very little dust inside the case, nothing spilled and no indication of component burned out.  I am not aware of any static event.  Any ideas?

Does the charge light come on when you have it on the charger?

Hi,

 

I have the exact same problem.

My U410 touch won't turn on.

No charge light and I know for sure the power cord works fine.

 

Were you able to find a solution?

The solution was to replace the motherboard.  Mine was a few months out of warranty.  The replacement part was quoted at $480 plus shipping.  Wasn't going for that.  Took some persistence but they agreed to repair the machine under warranty.  I literally got it back yesterday.  Looking at the date of my original post, you can see how long that took.

 

If you choose to pursue the warranty route, be polite but be persistent.  Use all the contact methods you can find.  The goal is to get past the front line support group.  They have a very "script" which they must follow.  It's the higher level folks who are able to make decisions.

hello

i am also experiencing the same problems after after all the troubleshooting i have gone through, i'm thinking of heading down my last option to call the customer support my warranty ran out in december 2013 and i have opened my laptop to remove the battery and replace it to try and troubleshoot, what key things did you say to them to persuade them to fix it under warranty? as i am not in a financial situation to be spending ludacrious amounts on money for a product that should still be working.

Hi,

 

the problem was the motherboard. They had to replace it. I honestly just called them and, as it was under warranty, they just told me to ship it. I was really satisfied by the costumer service.

Yeah im thinking i have the same problem, unfortuantly im out of warranty so i'm going to call them tommorow and hope for the best,
