IdeaPad U430p - Win 8.1 watermark SecureBoot

2013-09-24, 14:25 PM

Hi, I bought before +- 14 days notebook IdeaPad U430p Grey
with configurations i5-4200u 8gb ddr3 geforce 730m
in notebook is preinstalled original windows 8 64bit

because i have msdn account i have original iso windows 8.1 64bit

so i after fresh install windows 8 from onerecovery i upgrade with this iso on win 8.1

for installing i used key what provide microsoft and for activation after installing win8.1 i used key from lenovo original windows 8.

activation is okay and windows 8.1 shows that is all okay.

I HAVE ONLY ONE MAIN PROBLEM!

in widnows 8.1 in lower right corner windows shows watermark with text "Not configured SecureBoot"

but i install windows 8 and after upgrade on 8.1 with UEFI in bios and in bios I have "Enabled" SecureBoot.

When I call into microsoft, microsoft support tell me "go to bios and enabled secureboot" but I have enabled this features.

Please help me with this, because this watermark is really annoying, Thanks.

Re: IdeaPad U430p - Win 8.1 watermark SecureBoot

now i find fix, in bios after installing windows 8.1 user must click on button secure/reset to default state secureboot.

only this. users not must enabled or disabled secureboot, because in default state have this notebook u430p set secureboot on enabled. so only what users must do is click in bios on default state for secureboot and after restart win8.1 hide this bad watermark.

Try disabling secure boot. Boot to OS and see if the message will appear or not. If not, then shut down and boot to bios to enable back secure boot.

Hi, moment you mean "Disable" SecureBoot in BIOS? Realy?
Or you mean, If exist option to disable SecureBoot in Win OS, so disable in Win 8.1?

Because problem with turn-off SecureBoot in BIOS is: with this option is only problem - microsoft tell me: this option exist yes, but you must reinstall OS in Legacy mode and not with UEFI. So therefore, I would prefer to leave that option in the bios on turn-on. EDIT: today morning me microsoft wrote, that it may be necessary to upgrade bios but unfortunately the lenovo site of a new bios for notebook U430p is not a word :(

I'm assuming that your bios has the latest uefi version. With this assumption you should have the secure boot option if you choose uefi mode. Secure boot option will not exist if you operate in legacy mode.

IMO, you should have secure boot disable before installing Win 8.1. However, since it is already done, I made the suggestion above hoping that it will solve the problem.

Re: IdeaPad U430p - Win 8.1 watermark SecureBoot

so on this notebook will be able to win8.1 operating system only with this feature turn-off?

and what if I make a recovery via onekeyrecovery
and after microsoft officially released updates to 8.1 via Windows Store 18.10.2013 what then?

What users upgrade via store from 8 on 8.1, what after?
It will have all the users who will upgrade watermark? It's crazy :smileyvery-happy:

(and turn-off feature SecureBoot in bios this isn't best solution if you understand me what i mean,

because for this must user before installing Win OS set in bios legacy mode too,
but in upgrade via WindowsStore this not do ..because still OS what is upgraded is install in EUFI mode, this isn't fresh install OS but only upgrading, so this can not be done)

on this must be somehow prepared company lenovo or not?

I hope in the fact that company Lenovo into the official release Win8.1 give some solution.
because for use Win8.1 for use only with solution/option turn-off SecureBoot and set LegacyMode I do not consider it as good.

Answer: I can't answer your question. In the first place I really would not be installing a beta, RTM, or whatever except the final version on my system. Since you have install it then you must have made the assertion to yourself that you qualify as an IT professional as stated in the warning sign in microsoft's website. And that you are capable of solving whatever problem that you may encounter due to the installation.

What users upgrade via store from 8 on 8.1, what after?
It will have all the users who will upgrade watermark? It's crazy

Answer: You don't understand what that version is for. It is not for everybody yet. So not all user are installing it. I have installed it once in a virtual box but remove it later.

(and turn-off feature SecureBoot in bios this isn't best solution if you understand me what i mean,
because for this must user before installing Win OS set in bios legacy mode too, but in upgrading via store this isn't fresh install OS but only upgrading, so this can not be done)

Answer: You ask for help so I presented you my help. It is not for you to make a criticism out of it but to solve what you have describe. Why would you use legacy mode? Can you explain why? Is it necessary to install Win 8.1 preview through the store? I install mine not through the store.  I do not have the time to make any explanation for every suggestion made. If you want a full understanding go to some institution or forum that provide such a service.

Oh :D sorry guy. I Apologize. You have misunderstood me.
I'm happy for your advice. If you understand.
I meant well. I so thank you for the advice.

I just hope that someone else will contribute to this thread with a council to put up a into this notebook win8.1 with same settings as is now win8 (with uefi and secureboot).

After all, if I have to Win8 with UEFI and secureboot, so I do not see why I might not have win8.1 with these.

There is no need to apologize. I am just answering your questions. Here is the exact present statement from Microsoft regarding the installation of Win 8.1 Preview.

Is Windows 8.1 Preview ready for everyone to try?

We strongly recommend that only experienced PC users download Windows 8.1 Preview or Windows RT 8.1 Preview. Before you download the preview, you should weigh the pros and cons of installing software that's still in development. If you install the preview release, you'll get to try out the many new features, but you might also encounter errors that you wouldn't encounter using a released version of Windows.

I have the same problem with windiws 8.1 core on my lenovo s400 (with (u)efi).
And I even haven't "secure boot" option in bios.
Lenovo does not bad things, but support of their devices is on NULL level.
