Certainly wish I had read the reviews and done more research before we went to Best Buy a few months ago. Barely six months old, and my Lenovo touch laptop has done the same thing. Opened it today to creaking and popping, and lo and behold, the hinge is broken. I have never dropped or been forceful at all with this laptop (not my style at all), but Best Buy claims it is damage caused by accident or excessive force and wouldn't even touch it. Maybe they should read these reviews before they make their statements. We will be calling Lenovo customer service tomorrow...and hopefully we can get through quickly and without charges for the repairs. It seems we are in good company!

Moshpot I was wondering how your repair was going. I was contacted and told that they would not cover mine under warrenty because it looked like I had used excessive force. Then after arguing with them for an hour they said the best they could do was have someone contact me in four business days to process my claim further.

We just had the exact same thing happen on our laptop. The lid just seemed to be a just a bit tight over time, and today we opened the laptop to a creak and a pop! The left hinge had frozen in the closed position, which broke out the bottom of the LCD screen glass and now won't allow the screen to open up fully.
I am glad to see we were not the only ones affected by this defect. Luckily we chose Lenovo over Microsoft and HP when we had a purchase choice to make. We will be sending this in for repair under the standard warranty. Our machine is just over 2 months old.
Hi There, Malados again (had to re-register on the forums to post).
As a long overdue update, the issue has been repaired under warranty. Lenovo was even kind enough to send a pre-paid return box to ship it in, which was very cool of them.
Upon inspection at their repair center, I received a call and I also originally got the "It will cost $498.00 to repair the screen, will you be using Mastercard or Visa" overseas support pushback, but I asked the case to be escalated. After a few days I was contacted by a technician here in the United States and he was extremely helpful and understanding.
I explained the situation and he said that they would repair the screen and hinge under warranty. The hinge appears to be working ok for now, but if you feel it starting to get tighter or binding it may be your cue to contact technical support for repair before it completely locks up and breaks your screen. I was actually suprised there isn't a recall, but I'm assuming the risk vs. cost isn't high enough.
It looks as if this has happened to this poor soul more than once, so definitely keep an eye on it. This gentleman had it happen three times.
Best of luck out there. The laptop is fantastic, by the way. Overall I am very satisfied with lenovo's response and the care I received.

They told me they will not fix it unless i give them $300.00. I told them to send it back and they said they will call me back in 5-7 business days... lol they have so many issues it takes them 5-7 business days to call you back? I cant say enough how disapointed I am with Lenovo. As soon as I get this junk back I am going into Best Buy and smashing it on the floor. Then I will buy my faithfull brand as they tend to last four years without issue

Hello Lenovo Community.
I also had the U530 Touch hinge damage my computer. I was opening my laptop up like any normal calm person would, and the hinge just ripped itself right out of its socket, cracked the entity of the LCD screen, destroyed the base of the LCD screen, and in the end, according to a Lenovo representative (I spoke to more than one), over ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE pieces were in need of replacement. I recently got an email from a tech support specialist that they can't service my laptop anymore and instead would like to issue me a complete refund for my laptop. The reason for this decision was because they didn't have the necessary parts, AND they claimed it would take way too long for the parts to arrive; great one Lenovo. I am very disappointed in Lenovo because I thought they offered great products at outstanding prices. Maybe I was wrong. I doubt I will buy from Lenovo again after this incident. Please call 1877-453-6686 if anyone else is dealing with this, because this is the only number that will get you to the right specialist. I promise you that.
