Re: Ideapad U350 Fan Control / Speed

2010-11-06, 20:31 PM

Hello,

Just wanted to say that I tried the modded BIOS and it worked flawlessly! I have been waiting a long time for the solution of the noise issue,.

THANKS A LOT!

Also for average temps 5min after Windows has started:

Original bios: 42C

Modded bios: 45C

You can bet that I would rate a SILENT notebook above a 3C cooler notebook any day!

If you mean disabling wireless adapters' whitelist, then I'm planning to make this mod in the near future (along with a swap of CTRL and FN keys).

Yes that's right.

Please let me know where you make it available, here or on another forum?

Thank you

hi there!

middleton, any chance to flash your mod bios under linux ubuntu 10.04 ?
I killed all my partitions, win7 has completely gone.

wine is able to open winphlash.exe, but i am not sure to click on "flash" :-D

or better make a freedos bootable CD and use phlash16.exe? can phlash16.exe handle .wph files ?

In theory phlash16.exe can flash .wph files. I don't know why lenovo don't provide bootable CD-image for IdeaPads BIOS upgrading (they do provide this CD-image for ThinkPads).

Anyway if I were you I would use Bart PE bootable Windows CD. I have many successful reports about flashing BIOS in such a way from linux users.

As far as I can say from what I have read til now I need windows files to create a bootable  CD with Bart PE. And Win7 seems to not being supported.

What would or could be a problem with phlash16.exe from freedos prompt?

Is there a serious doubt the process could kill my BIOS? If so, is there a way to reset the CMOS? I dont think so, right? ^^

I don't know. Really. There are several versions of phlash16.exe. Which of them should you use? How can I know that if lenovo doesn't support flashing BIOS with phlash16.exe for IdeaPads?

Simply remember that you use phlash16.exe at your own risk. I didn't try to flash IdeaPads from DOS, so I can't guarantee that everything will be fine. If you'll brick your machine, then don't ask me for help, OK :smileyhappy:?
