Ideapad s300 Windows 8.1 Mouse properties missing Device Settings

A new project brought a Lenovo Ideapad s300 primarily for use as a desktop machine. It uses an external display and mouse. The machine performed well, and reliably for approx. the first 7 months until 21.05.2015. After an automatic Windows 8.1 update; it began independently deleting folders, files and Desktop icons on the mouse Left Double-Click in Windows 8.1. Thinking it was an OS problem; it was posted on a Microsoft Windows 8.1 forum. See [1]. The post produced no problem resolution. Since the above date; the notebook functions properly and well except when the sporadic deletion problem repeats in regular intervals of about 2 weeks. When the problem repeats; resetting the mouse may stop the deletions and other symptoms. The original wireless USB mouse was replaced, and the same symptoms occured with the replacement USB cable mouse.

An attempt to troubleshoot the problem tried deactivating the touchpad to determine if it could be the source of a possible conflict. Deactivation went to the Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> which displayed a "Hardware" tab, but no "Device Settings" tab as in [2]. Device Manager displays no "Mouse" driver conflicts. This suggests a Mouse driver or Touchpad driver problem. To keep the post short; [4] includes further troubleshooting results that may not be essential.

1) What are the recommended practices to correct the missing touchpad settings in "Device Settings"?
2) [3] is a link to the Lenovo Ideapad s300 mouse driver, is this the correct and recommended driver?
3) What other drivers may be required?
4) How are these drivers properly installed?
5) What else may identify the cause and remedy?

A lot of time was spent googling these troubleshooting measures, including this forum. If the answer is documented please excuse the oversight, and point me to the document.

Thank you very much for your attention and time - Gary Gabriel

[4] Further troubleshooting results. Folder and file deletion; and probably copying and moving; can occur on mouse Right Single-Click. These independent actions have not been confirmed. Deletion occurs in a multiple buffer text editor by jumping to open text buffers. More information in [1].
