I have an Insignia TV that I have hooked up to my ideapad U530 via brand new HDMI cable. No matter what, my laptop will not send out a signal or detect that there is even a second display. I've been posting on a computer support forum, but that has not really gone anywhere.
What is the issue? Why can I not get this to work?

After You plug in the HDMI right click on the desktop, click screen resolution. Does monitor 1 and 2 show up in this window? Try clicking detect. Let me know so I can help you further.

1) Try using another HDMI cable.
2) Verify that you are connected to the correct port on the TV. Try other HDMI ports on TV.
3) Switch to HDMI input on TV and see what message does it display.
4) Try connecting any other laptop to TV using HDMI.
let me know once you tried above options.

This cable is brand new. There's absolutely no reason that should be the issue, but I will try another. (note, the company I ordered the new HDMI from sent two of the same one)
I have verified this, and tried HDMI 1 and HDMI 2.
Did that, have it on HDMI 1 and it says 'no signal'.
This is the only laptop in the house.

You can try taking the laptop to a friend's place and connecting to their TV, make sure it's a different brand/TV.
Obviously, there can only be 3 spots of issue here -
1) HDMI port on laptop -- (Hence I suggested using a different laptop)
2) HDMI cable -- (Suggested using a different HDMI cable)
3) HDMI port on TV or TV software -- (Suggested checking the connection and above, using a different TV)
I have connected my laptop to several LG and Samsung TVs and every time it works fine. The only issue I have noticed is a loose connection.
I am sure you will find the issue once you try these options. Keep the thread updated with what you find.

Soooo.....that's it? I'd rather have a Lenovo employee respond. This laptop is still new, was purchased in October. Nothing should be wrong with the HDMI port. Nothing should be wrong, period.
I tried a different cable, same result. There has to be a better way to figure out what the issue is. The laptop does not detect the second display....should give some hints to the people who made this thing,
